38 Munich – Charming Metropolis in the Centre of Europe Munich is the largest city in the South of Germany and at the same time the centre of Bavaria. The location of the city is preferred: a short distance to Austria, Italy and Switzerland. Moreover, Munich itself offers many leisure activities. In winter the Alps provide the opportunity for all kinds of winter sports such as skiing, just an hour away by car. In summer the warm weather invites to make trips to the lakes in the vicinity of Munich where you can enjoy yourself while swim- ming, water-skiing or just relaxing at one of the many beer gardens. Also, Munich is one of Germany's most historic city. A trip around the historic places conveys an impression of the entire history.
