9 ECP 2022 Basel Keynote Speakers e Emina Emilia Torlakovic (Canada) Dr. Emina Emilia Torlakovic obtained her M.D. at the Univer- sity of Zagreb Medical School and her Ph.D. at the University of Oslo Medical School. In 1996, during her fellowship in surgical pathology at the University of Minnesota, she has distinguished sessile serra- ted adenoma (SSA) as an entity from other serrated polyps, specifically hyperplastic polyp (HP) and traditional serrated adenoma (TSA) and with her team developed additional dia- gnostic criteria and classification of serrated colorectal polyps in 2003 and further refined diagnostic criteria between TSA and SSA in 2008. She is board certified by The American Board of Pathology in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology with subspecialty boards in Hematopathology. She worked as a pathologist at the Na- tional Radium Hospital in Oslo, Norway until 2004, when she moved to Canada. She was a professor at the University of Toronto when she moved to the University of Saskatchewan in 2017 where she is now a clinical professor and a division head of laboratory hematopathology at the Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon. She was a founding member of the NordiQC, co-founded CIQC, and most recently founded and currently directs Ca- nadian Biomarker Quality Assurance (CBQA) and CBQARea- dout.ca , academic quality assurance programs for predictive and prognostic biomarkers. Dr. Torlakovic is the Chair of the National Standards Commit- tee for High Complexity Testing of the Canadian Association of Pathologists. She is the President of the International So- ciety for Immunohistochemistry and Molecular Morphology and a Board Member of the International Quality Network for Pathology. She is also currently leading several national and internatio- nal projects related to development and quality assurance of biomarker assays for precision medicine. Dr. Torlakovic con- tinues to engage in research projects on serrated colorectal polyps.
